Are You Really Ready for a CMMC Assessment?
Since official L2 assessments began on Jan 2, I have been speaking with CCAs working for various C3PAOs (and some that work for more than one), gathering stories and statistics. The overwhelming truth is that most OSCs truly aren't ready, what Jacob Horne calls "false starts." OSC contacts a C3PAO, an initial scoping calls is undertaken, and the result is:
- Roughly two-thirds are immediately turned away and encouraged to get professional assistance with their preparation.
- Of the one-third that get an assessment scheduled, one-third are stopped in Phase One because it is obvious they aren't ready (i.e., they will fail if they continue).
- Of those that make it through Phase One and begin the actual assessment, fewer than half end up with a certification.
